Mentoring Millwork Design

BBA Architects is committed to providing the highest quality design work to our clients. In order to achieve this, we understand the importance of continually educating our staff about the latest techniques and technology in the industry. Recently, we took a significant step towards achieving this goal by organizing a tour of the Wood Logic Millwork shop in Elk Grove Village. This tour was part of a series of sessions focused on exploring the millwork industry, cabinet makers, and best practices when it comes to millwork design. The purpose was to expose our team to real-life examples and learn from experts in the field.

During our visit, we were fortunate enough to have presentations from the knowledgeable staff at WoodLogic. They covered various aspects of custom cabinet making - from design concepts to production processes. One particular area that caught our attention was how pieces and joinery are designed for efficient cutting using CNC machines.  Understanding how CNC machines can optimize production is crucial for us as architects because it allows us to create designs that can be effectively executed by manufacturers. By familiarizing ourselves with this technology, we can ensure that our designs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical in terms of construction.  Additionally, we delved into the sequence of cabinet assembly during this tour. The shop drawings served as a guide for understanding how components come together during construction. This knowledge aids us in designing cabinets that are not only visually appealing but also structurally sound.
