Rushmore
Located in the Meat Packing District, this quaint restaurant in a turn-of-the-century masonry structure offers an intimate respite below the noisy "L" tracks running overhead. During the meticulous exterior renovation, the two original cast iron support columns and an existing gas lamp were restored to their original beauty and integrated into the new custom glass storefront. Inside the restaurant, a series of angular steel fins extend over the bar to provide noise reduction as well as visual separation of the bar from the dining area. This canopy also introduces a modern design element to this simple interior while evoking the utilitarian structure of the "L" tracks outside.
